Educational Goals and Philosophy :: Teaching Teachers Education Learning Essays

Philosophy of Education It has taken me many years to decide on what profession that I want to pursue. I enlisted for four years in the Air Force and enjoyed this very much, but the time away from my family was too much. After getting out of the Air Force, I decided I wanted to go into the financial arena and started selling insurance for New York Life Insurance Company. I did not have the personality to sell life insurance for this involved being really pushy. Later I found what I thought was the perfect job, assistant manager at a credit union. I still was not happy. While all these career changes were going on, I was coaching a club soccer team consisting of high school boys. This gave me the vision of what I really wanted to do, become a teacher. The biggest reason why I want to become a teacher is that a teacher has the ability to influence and shape the future Albert Einstein, Bill Gates, or just the average Joe down the street. We all can remember that one teacher who shaped or changed our lives as we progressed through our schooling and what better way to honor them than by trying the accomplish the same things they did for us. This is a very powerful ability to possess and while your influential you must not let your prejudices interfere with the rounding of the student. What important qualities will I need to possess to be an effective high school teacher? I will need to have patience as I already see how important this is with my own daughter. Intelligence is important in your area of expertise because students will be able to tell if you know what you are teaching. Honesty with students because this will build trust among the students and yourself. Sharing life experiences with your students is important because this also builds trust among yourself and the students. Being well organized is another quality that must possess and at this time I need work in this area. Caring is an important quality because sometimes we forget that our students are human and has ideas and opinions of their own. Being fun and interesting builds wonderful memories and helps the students learn. My goals as a teacher include the things above, but also many more. First and foremost I want to receive my master’s degree, but while doing this I also want to be teaching in a high school.

Ancient Rome and Bravery

BRAVERY what is the first thing that comes to mind when the word bravery is said? For most people a war hero or a superhero comes into their minds. Probably every language has a word for bravery, but there is only one true meaning. The word bravery is â€Å"showing a brave spirit or courage†(Random, p. 164) when hard times are thrust upon or happen to them. Bravery is not only what people do, but how they do it. The concept is also â€Å"showiness, splendor, and magnificence†(Random, p. 164). Bravery may be shown in different ways: a person may jump from a plane or walk on fire to show that he/she is truly brave. Then again, sometimes bravery is something that a person has inside him or her and is never shown as an action at all. For thousands of years, people have used words that describe the concept of bravery. The history, or etymology, of the English word bravery is as follows. The word originated in Latin as barbarous. The Romans who spoke Latin were warriors so it is logical they would have a word that talked about their courageous actions. The Vulgar Latin, which was spoken Latin, was transformed by Middle French in the middle Ages as well as by Middle English. This form of English was what was spoken in the 12th to 15thcenturies. From the Middle English evolved the English we speak today and with it, the word bravery. Throughout history, people have talked about the concept of bravery in many ways. The Greek writer and philosopher Euripides said, â€Å"The man who knows when not to act is wise. To my mind, bravery is forethought† (Euripides, p. 11). In the Middle Ages, George II of England said that â€Å"bravery never goes out of fashion† (George, p. 261). Later, Francoise de la Rockefoucould said, â€Å"True bravery is shown by performing without witness what one might be capable

Is Concentration and Career Analysis Essays - 1811 Words

IS Concentration and Career Analysis Introduction Coming from a family that owns a small business, I decided to pursue a degree in business administration with concentration in management and marketing. By the time I graduated from college, I realized how important it is to implement information technology into a small business like ours. Our competitors have created online shopping websites which result in increasing sales and expanding territories. It would be cost insufficient for us to hire a professional firm to build our website and maintain it. I start thinking why not doing it myself and that is why I am here in DePaul College of Computing and Digital Media. After some research, I decided to join E-Commerce Technology†¦show more content†¦Before I switched to BA/SA concentration, I took SE 430 -Object-Oriented Modeling which I found extremely useful. The characteristics of this course fit in the idea of building Supply/Demand IT system very well. It focuses on abstraction to capture entitys essential be haviors which is applied to a system being built as clients request or a system being build based on demand and identity opportunities (Streeter). In addition, there were multiple team projects which required me to communicate with my online teammates and client team. It helped me strengthen my communication skills, gained more confident of working with people I do not see face to face, and understand difficulties from both parties of the project. Unfortunately, this course will not count toward my degree but I am glad that I took it. I think this course should be optional in the elective phases of BA/SA concentration because I am sure other BA/SA students could find this as useful as I did . Business Analysis/ Systems Analysis Roles There is often an absence of business and system analysts in small business. In my opinion, if there is one program and one programmer, it is not necessary to hire a business/system analyst due to cost efficiency. But if there are many programmers who are working on multiple programs, it is a important to have someone oversee the big picture. That is the work of the business and systems analyst.Show MoreRelatedCareer Exploration Plan Worksheet982 Words   |  4 PagesUNIV/100 Career Exploration Plan Worksheet For this assignment, you will research the http://www.phoenix.edu website and use the My Career Plan tools on eCampus.
